Sealants / Leak Repair
EternaBond 4" Roof Sealant Tape
Every RV should have a roll of EternaBond tape in it. EternaBond is perfect for sealing tears in a roof, sealing around items installed on the roof (such as air conditioners, skylights, fans, and antennas), and for repairing other problems with the RV (at least temporarily).
During rut, the 5Js RV rig had a deer run right out into the road and hit the side of our truck and then hit the front of our RV. The deer severely damaged the side of the truck and the 5th wheel, causing at least one storage door to hang free. With the use of EternaBond, the door was secured, the other loose and broken panels were secured and waterproofed, and the journey could continue. Of course a trip to the body shop was needed, but EternaBond let the trip continue until insurance could authorize the repairs and we could get an appointment for the work.
Butyl Tape 1 Inch White
If you're going to be installing anything on your roof or on your side walls, you will need butyl tape as your first line of defense against water intrusion.
Dicor 501LSW-1 Self-Leveling Lap Sealant (White)
If you are looking to reseal your roof or add an accessory to your roof, you can't go wrong with the product most RV manufacturers use on the roof: Dicor self-leveling lap sealant.
Lexel Clear Sealant
Don't use silicone in your RV. Silicone is not very stretchable or flexible and it does not stick to itself. That means when your RV bends and flexes while driving down the road and the silicone seal breaks, you will have to reseal. But, first you will have to spend hours stripping every last bit of silicone and residue off the surface so you can reseal.
Instead of silicone, use Lexel. Lexel sticks to wet surfaces, is more flexible than silicone, and lasts a long time. And, if you have to reseal, you can simply clean the existing Lexel and reseal over the top with new Lexel!
Dicor 551LSW-1 Non-Sag Lap Sealant (White)
If you are looking to reseal the edges of your roof or add an accessory to the edge of your roof, you can't go wrong with the product most RV manufacturers use on the curved part and side wall of the roof: Dicor non-sag lap sealant.
Sika 221 Non-Sag Sealant (White)
Sika 221 Non-Sag sealant is known for its long-lasting, flexible sealing properties. Some experts believe it lasts significantly longer than Dicor. So, if you are going to reseal your roof, use the longer lasting product and ensure you don't have to reseal again so soon.
